"My new work begins with the word that the painting is named for...
I paint the word a few or many times on the blank canvas and then I just start painting --- trying to pay attention to composition without trying to pay attention. I pick the words based on the shapes of the letters and not the word. That also makes it very easy to name them.
This is not a “Where’s Waldo” gimmick. People find out there is a word in there somewhere - the intrigue begins, which is fine with me. Any way to get the experienced or novice art lovers to take a look and enjoy. I think the novice art lover can be intimidated by the “ART WORLD” and I want to change that." -J.Rabidoux

Amanda Johnson is a captivating and sensual artist who is masterful in communicating emotion, divine intervention and life blood in her work through the enchanted use of color and light regardless of the subject matter depicted.

Amanda's creative aptitude flourished from early childhood. She has developed her innate talent into a refined understanding of composition. With her repertoire of work ranging from portraiture to costume design, her formal education focused primarily on painting, yet her love of fashion and self expression led her to a career in film and television production where she was a successful costume designer and makeup artist.

Amanda Johnson is a native of Baltimore where she attended  Baltimore High School for the Arts graduating with honors and a continuing education scholarship. She earned her BFA and Fine Arts diploma from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Boston and the Tufts School. Soon thereafter she majored in Portrait Painting, continuing her education in Museum Studies at the Harvard Extension School. Miss Johnson then traveled to Greece and studied the history of art, further broadening her formal academic foundation.

Amanda currently garners inspiration from the majesty of the ocean and the lovely and quirky nature of Delray Beach, Florida which she now calls home. It is here that she continues her work at her studio in Artists Alley, Delray Beach. Amanda's recent projects include fine art lamps that have been featured in The Baltimore Museum of Art. She also creates a line of luxury fabrics that is quickly gaining the attention of Interior Designers and the garment industry. She is a 2014 award recipient of ASID, Maryland for one of her textile collections. Amanda Johnson's textile collection was created using her original paintings. Taking cue from art history and historical embellishments, each fabric begins as a painting that is worked with gold and silver leaf.  Each fabric was derived from one of her paintings. 

Artist statement: "My subject matter often portrays women: powerful demigods, real life dolls, femme fatales, and mythological figures. Influenced by the Greek Mythology and my own self-reflection, my artworks aim is to transcend time. My art works portray moments of divine intervention, decision making, and the process of my own personal life.

Susan Caplan is a South Florida photographer who is making a name for herself in the South Florida Art Scene.  She works with HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography , as well as being one of the top photographers of musicians in the area.  Her work has appeared in local magazines, and her work  has been published, (The Daily Book of Photography,  Walter Foster Publishing Inc, Hillboro Lighthouse Preservation Society Newletter).  She has had a solo show of her work with musicians at The Barry Gross Gallery, in Fort Lauderdale, FL,  has several images in the permanent collection of The Funky Biscuit, a nightclub in Boca Raton, FL, and her images appear on both CD's issued David Shelley and Bluestone.

Monique Lassooij was born and raised in The Netherlands and moved several years ago to Miami, Florida. Her paintings hang in numerous private collections in the US and abroad.

In The Netherlands Ms. Lassooij started out as an abstract painter but over the years she developed a passion for figurative painting. After having studied with Dutch artists such as Pien Hazenberg and Henk Hubenet, she attended the Royal Academy for Fine Arts in The Hague and has gone on to receive several commissions and can be found in public places such as the Town Hall of the city of Scheveningen in The Netherlands.

"My work explores the paradox in modern pop culture and society, sometimes clearly visible and sometimes through an underlining dichotomy interjected with humor."

Ms. Lassooij finds her inspiration in colors and how those colors affect the subject whether she is painting on canvas, wood or a wall. Her subjects are often not placed within a context-giving background, allowing a single or combination of colors and geometric shapes to illuminate the chosen topic.

.  Little Panda by Birds Are Nice (aka Diane Arrieta)

The science: The Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) has the conservation status of EN (Endangered). They are also considered to be conservation dependent; which means their survival is dependent on captive breeding. It belongs to the order Carnivora, however most of its diet consists of bamboo. The giant panda lives mainly in the Sichuan province of China. As a result of land use changes (farming), deforestation and human encroachment, the panda has been driven out of the lowland areas where it once lived. The Panda has historically been a target for poachers.

Panda bears are one of the most cared for species, with 40 reserves in China. It is also one of the most iconic species for conservation. Not everyone agrees that all the money spent on this species is deserved. There are not enough natural habitats left to sustain increasing captive bred populations. Wild panda population estimates vary anywhere from 1600 to 3000. There are approximately 266 in captivity. Estimates are not confirmed and the IUCN does not feel the population is stable enough to change their status from EN.

The art: Little Panda represents the plight of the endangered Giant Panda (discussed above); but also is a symbol for the fate of humans and the planet itself. The color red is one of the main colors in the work of Birds are Nice (BAN). It represents the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species; but also is a warning sign of danger…impending loss of ecosystem services needed for humans to live comfortably (clean air, water, etc.). Children are a constant thread in her work. They represent hope for the future.

BAN chooses to work in vinyl because of the ephemeral aspects of it. This signifies the fragile ecosystems and how fleeting life can be. Also having loved stickers since childhood, she states, "Making GIANT stickers is so FUN!!" (And you can stick them around town without getting caught!)

Diane Arrieta: Birds are Nice (BAN) is a visual artist and biologist studying wild dolphin populations. BAN lives in South Florida. Her work combines graphic elements with various printmaking techniques combined with illustration, sculpture and video. The work has a style rooted in the comic book genre, along with strong influences from Robert Rauschenberg.

Birds are Nice has a BFA in ceramic sculpture (Florida Atlantic University) and an MSc in Wildlife and Ecosystem Health (University of Edinburgh, Scotland). The main focus of her work is to illustrate the links between biodiversity (including endangered species), healthy ecosystems and human health. Children are a reoccurring theme in the works of Birds Are Nice. Nietzsche said, “The child is innocence and forgetting, a new beginning, a sport, a self-propelling wheel, a Sacred Yes”. Adults tend to over analyze everything. BAN’s work strives for the simplicity of that childhood innocence.
